February, 2010
Over the last few years we have had significant changes and developments in our community. Willard is evolving and growing, and with this growth we face new challenges.
I believe it is the responsibility of elected officials to not only think about what is good right now, but what is good 5, 10 or 15 years down the road.
With those things in mind, we are going to make a renewed effort to incorporate more long term planning into our city government.
We began last year by working with Drury University on a Park Master Plan. During that process a number of questions were brought up about Willard’s future. It was a great experience, and a lot of interesting and thought provoking ideas were discussed.
It is time we go through that process for the whole city. The last time we adopted a City Comprehensive Plan was 1999.
This will be a huge undertaking and will require a lot of people to work together. It will also require citizen input to truly develop a new Comprehensive Plan that fits our community.
Keep an eye out in future editions of the city newsletter and the city web-site for announcements about meetings and specific requests for input.
